Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) aircraft will be able to transport people and goods, making urban travel faster and less polluting.

Flying taxis that ease people’s commutes across congested cities, avoiding road traffic. Ambulances soaring through the skies to transport the sick to hospitals and vehicles enabling faster cargo transportation. Vertical Takeoff and Landing aircraft (VTOL) can perform various functions, altering commuting habits: not only will they make city travel faster, but also less polluting, as they are designed to be powered by hydrogen and electric batteries.

According to experts from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), these vehicles will initially be piloted by humans, but in the future, they could be remotely controlled thanks to technological advancements. “Perhaps in ten years from now, pilots will gradually be replaced, and these aircraft will be remotely controlled from the ground,” they explain. “And in a subsequent evolution, we might see autonomous air taxis without human intervention during the flight.”

According to some estimates by researchers, the Urban Air Mobility market could reach $7.6 billion worldwide by 2027, led by the United States, China, Japan, Canada, and Europe. A sector with significant potential, capable of generating 90,000 new jobs in the European Union according to EASA.
